2014 Logo Competition Print E-mail
With the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow in 2014, the churches have formed a group to look at how they can respond to the challenges and opportunities that will arise through such an event.  One of the first things we would like to do is design a logo to represent the group; and we are looking for YOUR help to do this.  We are running a competition for anyone under the age of 18 to design the logo, further details of which can be found on the poster below.  This is a great way for young people to be part of the process at a very early stage, as well as a chance for them to win £250 for their youth group; so we would really appreciate your support in encouraging your youth group to take part.   Download Poster
Competition entries should be sent to: Chris Plews, Presbytery of Glasgow, 260 Bath Street, Glasgow G2 4JP or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Web-Empowerment Evening Print E-mail

Broom Parish Church was the venue for the  Web-Empowerment Evening organised by Glasgow Presbytery's Communications Committee on Thursday 3 June 2010, when 180 people attended.

The evening featured a Skype video-presentation by Alec Grant, Presbytery of Europe webmaster and Business Convener. Founder of webempoweredchurch.org, author Mark Stephenson, addressed the gathering via a Skype link from the USA.  He introduced state-of-the-art software, explained how websites can amplify the work of every congregation, and indicated the help that is available. Attendees were able to take home a CD of the enterprise level, full version, cutting edge, Open Source, software compiled by the Committee from WEC resources. The event was supported by first rate catering organised by Broom Parish Church.

Initial feedback indicates overwhelmingly that people were greatly interested in the software and presentations and were inspired to re-evaluate their congregation's attitudes to ministry through the internet.

Church House
http://www.churchhouse.plus.com/Church_House/Welcome.html
Church House is a youth club in the heart of the East End of Glasgow, closely associated with nearby St. Francis-in-the-East Church. From a friendship between ministers, about 1968, Newlands South Church has bonded with Church House and St. Francis-in-the-East to create an enduring Christian Fellowship.

Glasgow the Caring City
http://www.glasgowthecaringcity.com/
For every disaster and relief effort over the past decade, Glasgow the Caring City has responded effectively, compassionately and with the interests of humanity closest to our hearts. From the mountains of Afghanistan to the Beach of Sri Lanka, from the Sky Scrapers to Manhattan to the windswept shacks of Sudan, Glasgow the Caring City has responded in the name of our city. Our beliefs are simple we provide help were help is required. We express no political motive and seek none in return, we simply provide care, help and love to the most fragile and destitute in our Global Community.

Lodging House Mission
http://www.lhmglasgow.org.uk/

The Lodging House Mission is a Presbytery of Glasgow project established in 1907. The facilities available today include a Drop-in Centre for Information and Advice, Education and Activity Programme, Internet Cafe and Church Community for Glasgow's' homeless, hostel dwelling and resettling communities. A holistic service is offered, caring for the physical, emotional, practical and spiritual needs of each individual.

The Well, Asian Information and Advice Centre

http://www.thewell.org.uk/
The Well is a drop-in information and advice to the Asian Communities of Glasgow – in particular the Pollokshields and Govanhill areas.  We deal with all sorts of issues, from help with filling in benefits forms, to liasing with utility companies, or simply providing a listening ear. The Well takes its name from John chapter 4, the account of Jesus meeting the woman at the well, where the man met the woman, the Jew the Samaritan.  The desire of all who are involved with The Well is to: “Serve the Asian Communities holistically, with Christian love and compassion, enabling cross-cultural understanding in an ethnically diverse city”. The Well is uniquely placed to build bridges between communities who would never otherwise meet.
