About Kirkintilloch: St Columba’s Hillhead
The town of Kirkintilloch lies approximately 9 miles to the North East of Glasgow in the area of East Dunbartonshire. St. Columba’s beginnings were established by the merger of two of Kirkintilloch’s older churches, St. David’s Ledgate and St. Andrew’s in 1961. The expansion of Kirkintilloch in the late 1960s and early 1970s in the areas known as Rosebank and Oxgang allowed for the building of a new church in this area rather than stay closer to the town centre. The foundation stone was laid on the 31st. August 1968 with the Church opening in October 1969. The Parish covers both a residential and rural area.
