New Presbytery Clerk AppointedPublished 12 Jul 2022
The Reverend Dr Grant Barclay has been appointed as Presbytery Clerk for the Presbytery of Glasgow. Grant has been acting as Interim Clerk and has been involved with church administration for some time. He has previously served on the Board of Practice and Procedure and convened the Council of Assembly. He is currently convener of the Legal Questions Committee and was appointed as a Queen's Chaplain in May this year.
Grant trained and worked as a solicitor before entering the ministry. He studied at New College, Edinburgh and then served for over twenty years in St Kentigern's Church, Kilmarnock before becoming minister in Orchardhill Church, Giffnock.
In his spare time Grant enjoys walking and is developing, through necessity, an interest in gardening. He is finding that his cycling dovetails well with a delight in meeting friends for coffee. He is married to Karen and they have three grown up children.
Grant is excited about taking up the post of Presbytery Clerk. “While there is deal of administration, the work is much more about supporting colleagues in ministry and congregations all across the Presbytery of Glasgow. In these demanding times, I see it as a ministry to provide advice and enable processes which help us decide well and follow through with faithful action.
“Working with the Presbytery office staff has been a great help in the past year, and I am delighted to be part of a team deeply committed to helping our congregations be people of the way of Jesus Christ in the coming period.”
Grant is also keen to meet people across the Presbytery. “I enjoy cycling across Glasgow to meet colleagues for a chat in all sorts of interesting cafes. I look forward to hearing from anyone who would like to invite me to join them!”
